Bucher Vaslin acquires distribution partner in Portugal
Bucher Vaslin, a Bucher Industries AG company based in France, is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of equipment for the wine industry. Production sites are located in France and are supported by a sales and service organisation in Italy, North America, Chile and Argentina, as well as a worldwide distribution network.
Portugal is considered to be one of the most important wine-producing regions in Europe. Somavil – Representações de Màquinas Vinicolas, Lda, a privately-owned Portuguese company, distributes and installs Bucher Vaslin’s winemaking processes in Portugal. Portugal is considered to be one of the most important wine-producing regions in Europe. Somavil – Representações de Màquinas Vinicolas, Lda, employs 21 people and has generated annual net sales of almost €4 million in recent years. The company, founded in 1984, is based in Alenquer, north of Lisbon. All jobs will be safeguarded.
Thanks to this acquisition, Bucher Vaslin will be closer to its customers and will be able to supply its products directly to end customers in Portugal. At the same time, customers will continue to benefit from Somavil’s excellent service and its leading position in the Portuguese market. In addition, the acquisition provides a succession solution for all Somavil customers and employees, ensuring the continuity and future growth of the business. The current management team, Mr João Carlos Rodrigues and Mr Jorge Batista de Melo, will remain with the company for a transitional period until their respective retirements in December 2024 and December 2025.
